Believing in Your Body

Have you ever noticed that the way others describe you is different than how you describe yourself? You just may be your own worst critic, finding fault where others see perfection. What you consider flaws may be the very features that other people find endearing.
When you pay attention to your thoughts, you start to hear what you say to yourself. Are you complimenting or criticizing? Do you acknowledge yourself for a job well-done or only berate yourself when you don’t consider your results satisfactory. Becoming aware of your thoughts about your body image is the first step in transforming your beliefs about your physical self.
This concept is at work not only in relation to appearances, yet to health too. What follows the words “I am” can have a tremendous impact on your health and well-being – either positively or negatively.
Everyone knows someone who seems to be chronically ill with colds, headaches, backaches, and other minor setbacks. What are their “I am” statements? They’re usually things like “I am sick”, “I am not feeling well”, or the ever-persistent “I am tired”.
Those committed to a life of wellness, on the other hand, will say things like “I am feeling great”, “I am excited”, and “I am so grateful for my health”.
This week, listen to your “I am” statements about your physical self. Note where you can make improvements. List 5 “I am” statements that support a healthy body and body image and say them to yourself every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to sleep.
What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve – a healthy and beautiful body is yours if only you believe it so!
